The Chilojo Cliffs

The Chilojo Cliffs in Gonarezhou National Park just take your breath away.

The cliffs rise 558 feet from the south bank of the Runde River.

Due to visiting this corner of Zimbabwe after the rainy season ended, there are only hints of the Runde River.

The cliffs are red sandstone and just stunning.

The trip to visit Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge was well worth it for these cliffs alone!

Gonarezhou National Park is part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park

(with South Africa's Kruger and Mozambique's Gaza).

A River Runs Through Gonarezhou

Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe is dominated by the lovely Save River.

Aren't these clouds beautiful?  Zimbabwe continues to astound me with some of the most wonderful clouds I've ever seen.

Each day we were in Gonarezhou, we could visibly see the water lowering as we entered the dry season.

Shadreck's Office

While visiting Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge, we stopped by Shadreck's Office.

Shadreck's Office is this massive baobab in Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe.

Shadreck hollowed out the inside of this amazingly old baobab
(think hundreds and hundreds of years) and used to live inside.

The problem?  Shadreck was a hugely successful poacher

and used it to hide the animals he had killed.

This was one of the largest, most beautiful baobabs I have ever seen.

It was a pity to learn its sad poaching history,

but also amazing to see the inside of a baobab and see it surviving Shadreck.

We saw a Klipsringer (my first time) and they are absolutely adorable!

The Gonarezhou Smorgasbord!

Remember Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge?  It's been awhile since I posted on it. I got distracted by HIFA.

It was a wonderful distraction, but back to Chilo Gorge!

While at Chilo Gorge in Gonarezhou National Park, Zimbabwe, we came across this wonderful wildebeest.

This corner of Zimbabwe is just so incredibly lovely.

And it's easy to spot the last remnants of the rainy season.

Why, hello you impressive kudu, you!

The mighty baobab.  The tree goes right to your soul and it's impossible to weary of seeing it.

While driving, we came across this bull elephant.  He ignored us and ate.

And kept eating, and eating and eating!

Then, holy moly, throw that vehicle in REVERSE right now because he charged our vehicle, and he charged it fast.

My heart went through my toes and I must say, I was glad we were able to back up and back up fast.

This wasn't our only charge in Gonarezhou.  These were the most aggressive elephants I've come across in Zimbabwe.

Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge

During a trip to Gonarezhou National Park, Zimbabwe, on the Mozambique-South Africa border, I visited Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge.

This is the stunning view from my room.

and voila!  My room.

I loved, loved, loved the lodge's stairs.

Chilo Gorge was so incredibly relaxing.

And the lodge was beautiful.
